This will be lengthy, but it has details I wish I knew before. The price was a huge barrier to purchase for me, so I waited awhile to determine if it was worth it. After using it, it still feels overpriced for what it is, but I understand it is designed and made by a small company, and I am used to corporate pricing and devaluing of labor.
That being said. My frustrations are the strap, the zipper, the structuring, and lack of care instructions. The strap is the same material as the handles, and it seems durable. But when I have my 32 oz water bottle and my stupid heavy laptop, it is pretty painful on my shoulder for long periods of time. I think this is a given with what I'm carrying, but I think investing in a strap pad will be necessary for my needs for the bag. Side note: all the metal hardware seems to be great quality, the carabiner attachment is perhaps the most flimsy feeling but I don't foresee it actually giving out on me. The zipper has good hardware, its just personally annoying the length of the zipper and that it extends far beyond the panels it's on. It sort of flaps around if its open and can get twisted and become a hassle to get the top zippered while I'm walking. The structuring: if you look at any of the pictures people share, the way the bag sort of sags is more accurate than the professional photos. It stays upright, and is the most sturdy canvas bag I've ever had, but I do think the photos suggested a rigidity and starch-ness that is not present in the product.
Finally, as far as I remember it didn't come with care instructions (if it does ignore the following) and I couldn't find in depth ones on the website. For me, I needed it to know what temperature to set my iron for the patches I was attaching. Medium to high heat worked well enough. However, some corners of a patch didn't stick, so I tried ironing from the inside to help. But, this was where the padded laptop area was, and I unknowingly dissolved the padding in the shape of my iron. It's in the middle, I doubt it'll contribute to actual damage of my laptop, but it sucks since it's new. And it sucks because I had no way of finding out what the padding material was and if it could sustain heat from the website. If I had patience I would've emailed to ask, but I guess I took a gamble. So my advice to the company is have more in depth care instructions on the FAQ page, perhaps modeled off the information companies are required to disclose on factory produced products.
Side note: I can fit a 14" 2024 MacBook Pro and a 2020(?) iPad in the padded compartment. The MacBook does not have a case but the iPad does. The MacBook reaches the highest possible height on the compartment though, I think if I add a bulky case it might not zipper shut.
Summative: While there were a few things that came as a surprise to me even after in depth research, I feel I am happy with the purchase and I know the bag should last me for many years. I am happy I supported a small business and one who cares to incorporate the ideas of its customers. I have personalized mine and it makes me very happy to use it.
